Sydney Licht is interested in updating the conventions of still life by picturing things that reflect the way we currently live. Licht holds an MFA degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an undergraduate degree from Smith College, magna cum laude. She also attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine.
Licht’s paintings have been shown in commercial galleries and non-profit venues, colleges and universities nationwide. Her work has been reviewed in The New Yorker, Elle Decor, New York Magazine, and many other publications online and in print. Licht has also been awarded a residency at Yaddo, and twice has been a Visiting Artist at the American Academy in Rome, Italy. She has held teaching positions at colleges and universities around the country. She currently resides in New York City.
